About the Newburgh, New York Area HOW TO GET HERE The city of Newburgh is located on the Hudson River, approximately 60 miles north of New York City. To get here from New York City, you can take the New York State Thruway (I-87) north to exit #17. If you like traveling by train, take the Metro North Hudson Line from Grand Central to Beacon. From Beacon you can ferry across the Hudson River or take a cab over the Newburgh Beacon Bridge. SCHOOLS One of the best things about the Newburgh school district is the variety of programs that are offered to the kids. If your child has a speech or learning problem, there are programs for that. If your child wants to take accelerated classes or take part in many of the sports offered they compete state wide. Voters agreed to consolidate the schools in the Town of Newburgh and New Windsor with those in the city of Newburgh into one school district in 1963. This vote created the Enlarged Newburgh City School District. Two new schools were opened in 1972, due to increased population in the Towns of Newburgh and New Windsor. One school, built in the Town of Newburgh, was called Meadow Hill School; the other, called Temple Hill School, was built in New Windsor. Additions to Vails Gate, Fostertown, Gardnertown, and Gidney Avenue Schools were built in the 1980's. The two junior high schools were expanded. A third junior high school, called Heritage Junior High, was built from the former Epiphany Seminary building in New Windsor in the mid 1990's. SHOPPING Newburgh has a lot to offer for shopping. Closing or Settlement >Closing Dates
The final closing date is an important item in the negotiation of the purchase agreement on a home. This is the day when the buyers get their ownership papers and the sellers get their money. It is important to remember that most standard contracts don't pinpoint a specific date, and closings can be delayed due to factors beyond the buyer's control.
The closing will usually be set as soon as the title search and lender's paperwork can be completed. However, any number of factors can interfere with the closing schedule. For example, questions can arise about liens against the property that were paid, but not properly recorded. Items in the buyers credit history may have to be cleared up. These situations rarely cause the transaction to fall apart, but they can wreak havoc with your moving schedule. Your real estate agent will keep you up to date on the progress of your closing in order to avoid delays and minimize any inconvenience.
